Issues with Bone Breaking Surgery

Bunion condition is primarily the result of de-stabilization and dis-placement of the first metatarsal bone that has simply lost its ligamentous support. It is important to understand that there is nothing much abnormal about the first metatarsal bone itself. Therefore, it may not be the most ideal concept to break-n-shift the normal and innocent first metatarsal bone to compensate for its underlying ligament problem. This compensatory concept may just invariably compromise normal anatomy and thus normal mechanical function of the foot.

Re-alignment of the leaning first metatarsal bone by any "break-n-shift" technique is akin to trying to up-right the Leaning Tower of Pisa by the same breaking concept without stabilizing its foundation. Such approach will not only damage the Tower unnecessarily but also fail to solve its weak foundation problem and continued future leaning possibility.

However, there has been a major breakthrough in surgical concept and technique in bunion correction by a non-bone-breaking method to address all the issues with bone-breaking surgeries, for which there are more than 20 different ways being practiced around the world trying to solved the same issues among themselves but still unsatisfactorily.
